Alongside my career as a professional brass player and singer, I also teach various musical instruments.

I have a dedicated teaching studio at my home in Rochford, Essex or I can visit pupils’ homes in Rochford, Southend, Westcliff, Hockley, Leigh and surrounding areas. When travelling to pupils homes, I have to charge a little more to cover my costs and time.

I also teach Trumpet, Piano, Guitar and Drum kit at Alleyn Court Preparatory School, which is the oldest private school in South-East Essex.

I am registered as a teacher with the Musicians Union, have PTLLS level 4 teaching qualification and you can view my current CRB/DBS Enhanced disclosure certificate by clicking HERE.

I’m experienced in teaching both children and adults and enjoy both equally. I tailor my lessons to the needs of the individual. I believe it is essential to make lessons fun and enjoyable to keep enthusiasm up and I have the skills to inspire and motivate. I can focus on classical, jazz, soul or pop (or a mixture of all of these) as desired. If required I can take students through the music examinations set by the Trinity School of Music or ABRSM.

As a brass specialist, I can give tuition to complete beginners right up to advanced level for the whole valved brass family i.e. trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn, tenor horn, baritone, euphonium, tuba, valve trombone and mellophone.

Additionally I can offer beginner/intermediate lessons on drum-kit, piano, keyboard, nylon-strung guitar and bass-guitar.

My pupils will normally learn how to read music (this is not as hard as you may think) and we’ll cover some theory of music, but I can also teach students how to improvise if that’s what they want.

I have a huge library of teaching resources to cover the jazz and contemporary genres, some of which I have written myself to cater for specific techniques which I have found lacking (or confusing) in other teaching materials. These include play-along backing tracks, which can make learning great fun.

When teaching at my studio my fees are:

  • 60 minutes – £30 (daytime) £32 (evening)
  • 30 minutes – £16 (daytime) £17 (evening)
  • 20 minutes – £11 (daytime) £12 (evening)
  • 15 minutes –  £8  (daytime)  £9  (evening)

A discount may be available if paying for a block of lessons in advance. It is best to have one lesson a week to maintain continuity. Please give me a call on 01702 540010 so we can have a chat about what you want from your lessons & availability.
